Forseya Club 11th December 2009

This weekend, for a change, we went to a show at the Forseya Club in Cairo. The competition was on grass, something the horses do not experience alot of, so it is always a concern to see how they will react to the different surface.

The first completion was a team relay; one rider would jump the 80cm course and then their team partner would jump the 1m, each course consisting of six fences, either rider standing in the box in the center of the arena whilst their team partner jumped their course.

The first riders to go were Kate Wakefield riding Redley (for the first time in a competition) and Mariam Shash riding Shadow. Kate flew around the course at a good speed just having one down and Mariam did a clear round and jumped very well. Well done Mariam, just keep those legs on and GO TO JUMP!  Overall Kate and Mariam finished in a good time and were definitely smiling after completing this fun competition.

The next to go were Kate again with Redley (jumping the bigger course this time) and Mohamed Khalifa, riding Tarek Hamdy’s Banderas. Banderas is a four year old stallion who is just at the beginning of his career. He was broken in just a few months ago and is well on the way to being a fantastic little horse. Khalifa expertly steered Banderas around the 80cm course going clear and then Kate did a lovely calm and controlled round with Redley, jumping each fence in their stride and going clear.  Well done Khalifa, I knew Banderas would be a little star and I am over the moon with Redley as you know!

Mohamed Aymen and Cooper also competed in the relay course but one thing i would like to shout about is that he also competed in the C Class at the end of the day. The jumps were big and the course was long and if you don’t have the courage to jump this height of fences then that is when disasters can happen. However Rakawy went to jump, sat behind his horse and soared over every single fence. Unfortunately they missed out one fence in the course but they rose to the challenge of riding in the C Class and achieved this extremely challenging goal.

Hana Khalifa and Comet, who is still new to her, also competed in the C Class. Hana saw a good distance to every fence and jumped a really good course. As Comet is quite a large horse he does need to sit more to enable him to jump up and over the fence. At times he was a little flat and so this cost them both a few poles. Well done Hana though, I know you will do great things with this horse, just keep him together.

This one day competition was a huge success for the Stallion Equestrian Center. It boosted confidence in the riders, taught the young horses something new and overall was a very fun and enjoyable day out, excellent riding everyone J
